Upwork changed their pricing model, most candidates either decline jobs so they don't have to pay for a connection, and the ones that apply to your post are lower quality because they are trying to scam or find a long paying client. They generally have done several jobs for low amounts of money to get a 5 star rating.

I'm new to upwork and honestly I was using it to hopefully find a job I could do at home because I'm nearly destitute otherwise but I have skills to offer.
So I see these jobs for dropshipping/personal assistant/customer service. Seems like an easy job that I can handle so I bid on them. I get accepted and he emails me a contract that lays out the job details which seem reasonable so I sign it. The job is working with someone who runs a site that sells phones and gift cards with bitcoin. My job is to have a PayPal account and to go out and purchase the items, but I get 10% of what's sent. I accept and he wants to take the conversation off upwork and we talk in text message at this point. He sends two screen shots, one that includes a large balance and a message saying he had reached his withdrawal limit and it would end in 30 days. He says that he can deposit it on a credit card but I don't even have a bank account. The conversation has died down to nothing with this person.
Today I get accepted to another position and I'm elated because I just need a job. In his first messages the same website the other guy had. I feel I'm obligated the truth and told him I had been offered a job on the same crypto site and asked if his position was legit or a scam. I haven't heard a response from him and this has been my upwork experience thus far and I'm out of the tokens now to bid on jobs.
Is this a scam or a legitimate position? It certainly sounds scammy. I feel like if I had a credit card it would follow up with them asking for my numbers.
